A Song Poem

Demonizing,
Patronizing
Pushing me away,
Angered that I stay.
Canonizing,
Fraternizing,
Telling me to pray
About my judgment day.
When did we become
A court of jesters,
How am I the one,
The great objection?
Brutalizing,
Authorizing,
Making the new plan
Torture, fellow man.
Fictionizing,
Sterilizing,
Everything in place
For the master race.
What was it they wanted,
That has prompted all the taunting,
What did I neglect to give,
Is it just the way I live?
This path I choose to take,
To make my own mistakes,
Calling all things into question
By my mere existence?
When did we become
A court of jesters
How am I the one,
The great objection?
Immunizing,
Empathizing
With the lowly and the weak
Somehow so indiscreet.
Verbalizing,
Catalyzing,
Changing how we think
As we teeter on the brink.
When did we become
A court of jesters
How am I the one,
The great objection?
The messenger is slain
As he has always been,
He’s easier to bury
Than it is to let him in.

As Gordon Lightfoot once put it, they're playing jesters to a clown.
