An Upside-Down Day
I’m not sure what to say
A Meaningless Villanelle

I’m not sure what to say,
Don’t dare look at the news,
It’s an upside-down day.
Caught up in my own little ways,
Sometimes I just haven’t a clue,
I’m not sure what to say.
Stuck in an endless delay,
Far too many hours confused,
It’s an upside-down day.
Keep the demons at bay,
Need a new point of view,
I’m not sure what to say.
Dare I go or should I stay,
Not clear at all what to do,
It’s an upside-down day.
Trying to shake the malaise,
I never meant to be rude,
I’m not sure what to say,
It’s an upside-down day.
I thought today was a good time to look at “the elephant in the room”.
These days in the U.S. are very upside-down for many of us. There seems to be little to do or say about it, as though we are all too small to make a difference. So, I steeped myself (us) in it for a meaningless Villanelle.
Now it is time to go make a change, to bring our voices, to right-side the future days!

I post all my poems currently without a paywall, so that everyone can read and comment. I write to communicate, and connect, and hopefully spread compassion. I sense that we all need encouragement these days, especially the “least” among us.
Some of you donate to my work as paid subscribers ($5/month or $30/year), and I sincerely appreciate your support. This is a great help to me, making it possible for me to continue writing and extend beyond the poems into future music efforts.
Thank you to all who take the time to read and connect.
