Bygone Days
Do you remember when we dreamed
A Graduated Lines Poem

Do you ever wonder,
I know that I still do,
Where the days flew,
When did the world change?
Do you remember dreaming
Of limitless space,
All poverty erased,
When all that would remain
Were new challenges to bring?
We used to see this place
As abounding energy,
Eternal rhapsodies
Played in childhood minds,
When all the words would rhyme,
Gay melodies would dance
Across each familiar face,
The morning would retrace
A joy never confined;
What caused our dream to die,
Whatever happened then,
That took away our chance
To live life to the full?
To share each other’s hope,
And hear those endless schemes,
See an ever-widened scope,
Find our way back, to believe
We could climb that slippery slope
And reach our mountain home,
In time to watch the setting sun,
And learn again to breathe.
