Common Sense
Do the commons decide reality?

It’s common sense,
but is it?
What do we mean
by this common
word?
Is it shared
or obvious,
clear reality,
or something else
entirely?
How can we
be so sure
that we see
the same
thing?
Do our routines
make this space
we share
distinct,
common?
Who tells us,
who decides
what reality
is for me,
or you?
Who has
the final say,
who dictates
our point
of view?
Should we
follow this one
or that,
in the first
place?
Can we
trust ourselves
to be unique,
to think apart,
alone?
Is common
the best
we can
imagine,
or know?
In the end,
what does
common
reality
bring?
“Commonsense contains innumerable pre- and quasi-scientific interpretations about everyday reality, which it takes for granted.”
“I also know, of course, that the others have a perspective on this common world that is not identical with mine.”
Berger, Peter L.; Luckmann, Thomas. The Social Construction of Reality: A Treatise in the Sociology of Knowledge (p. 22). Open Road Media. Kindle Edition.
“The first thing I do when someone claims it is common sense is to question the authority of their statement.” — the author
