Dismiss the Empty Words
We must do the work
A Villanelle of Resistance

Dismiss the empty words
and take the time to think,
we must do the work.
Greed has run its course,
soon, the death knell rings,
dismiss the empty words.
We know it will be worse,
how far we have to sink,
we must do the work.
As reason yields to force
and strong abuse the weak,
dismiss the empty words.
Root out the evil source,
the cancer underneath,
we must do the work.
Spare me what you heard,
learn today to think,
dismiss the empty words,
we must do the work.
As we sit, stymied and unsure,
as our “leaders” falter
and show their cowardice,
seeking their own protection
and neglecting ours,
the days pass by,
our future becomes
less certain.
There will be no place left
for our children,
if we fail to act,
“punch today in the face,”
and call it “enough.”
Thank you for taking the time to read! I greatly appreciate your support.
