Distracted
Coming to the dead end
A poem

Distracted every day of my life by the constant noise surrounding me, telling of ill fortune coming fast
Upon me, with not a single thing that I might do to change its leaning, or turn aside before it passes.
The future runs ahead and leaves me, watching by the edge of graveled road, wondering who will come to save me,
Knowing well no one is expected, few yet even know the coming turn up a little further in the dust,
Unconscious, pleasantly unaware, thinking that all is well as long as they fill their own bellies, not knowing
What is next, fall victim to the test at their appointed time, in that place where hope is much too late to find them,
Distracted, with not a single thing, watching by the edge of graveled road, up a little further, not knowing
Who would ever find them
Was it me?

This one really pulled me along. I particularly liked - The future
runs ahead and leaves me,. Wish Substack had highlights....
