A Political Poem
He waltzes in
With a grin on his face,
Who is this man,
Who has entered the race?
We now have a dog-man
To go with cat-lady,
As much as we can,
Do we dare take him seriously?
Does he not know
There’s a crisis here,
Where weirdness flows
And nobody cares?
Where is his focus
On the dull and the dark?
He stops to smell roses
With his kid in the park.
Remembers the joy
We felt those early days,
Before division came
To sweep it all away.
Recalls the dinners
When everyone laughed,
No saints or sinners,
We were all welcome back.
“Come on in, neighbor
Sit, and let’s talk!
Do me a favor,
Got a story to swap?”
What if the demons,
That lurk in our heads,
Were sent on vacation
Back to Russia instead?
Oh wait, can it be
That it’s time for the dance,
Reclaim our destiny
Without Trump or Vance.
