I have no words,
They have flown from me;
I suspect I know the reason why
They have chosen to fly.
I did not deserve
To host them anymore;,
I refused to pay the cost,
I refused to want them more
Than my material life.
My fading light would tell,
When I learned soon enough
To what depths I fell.
I surveyed my dreams,
I came to realize
They were not at all
What they had seemed.
Too vain to believe,
Even more to carry
A burden never meant
For me to bear.
Now I rest and ponder
What may be next,
Whether better living
Or a holier death.
This wordless space is
All my experience,
I try to understand
What they may have meant
When they spoke incessantly,
And flew so near to me,
I thought it would never end
Until the day when
They were silent.
Notes from Moh’d:
Caravaggio, the raven — the birds at Walmart never cease to inspire me. trying to capture their naughty personality as they chase me, screaming and shaking. 12 in x 16 in watercolor pigment on watercolor paper.
Here is a quote by one of my favorite authors, Edgar Allan Poe: “Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortals ever dared to dream before; but the silence was unbroken, and the stillness gave no token”

Very heavy, Bob… i’m not sure and I will have to read this numerous times, but I feel something with you on this one. It has a lightness to it as you read it, but then when you read it more, it gets heavier. But it also has a desperation in it that I’m not too sure what it relates to.
Moh'd's Raven pic certainly was a perfect pair for this one.
