She Feeds the Lizards
She gives them each a name
A VERY SIMPLE POEM
She feeds the lizards,
gives them each a name,
and does not attempt to tame them,
they are her impermanent friends.
She lets imagination
take her where she wants to go,
this world where every creature
finds a place, makes its own home.
Somehow they met each other
and a bond between was set;
she looks for them each morning,
as she gathers insects in her net.
You might think she’s turning feeble,
and drifting in her mind,
but you’d be wrong, because you see
with unreflected eyes.
She sees things as they are,
the way they always had been,
before we changed reality
for every wrong reason.
As Leonardo waits upon the deck,
Leonard and Lucy stand far off,
and Libby hides inside the mouth
of the new figurine frog.
And her routine will start the day,
a swim in peace and morning light,
a joyful place to stop and play
with some invited friends.
