Shutting Out Reality
I surely would have beaten you
A Chanson Poem
Shutting out reality,
Unless you push it through my door,
And it no longer bothers me,
I cannot see it anymore,
I, too, will learn to be a bore
With little else that I must do;
If I had planned on keeping score,
I surely would have beaten you.
They say that life is such a dream,
That riches reach an open door,
No matter that it seems to me
A never-ending set of chores;
I cannot really know for sure,
It may just be my point of view,
If possibly I labored more,
I surely would have beaten you.
They call the others enemies,
That we are in a holy war,
Somehow I still have failed to see
The greatness that we must restore.
If honesty were there before
We took the mighty fall into
This ugliness that we ignore,
I surely would have beaten you.
The logic of the overlords,
That all receive what they are due,
When all the options were explored,
I surely would have beaten you.
Chanson: The rhyme scheme is usually ababbcbC ababbcbC ababbcbC bcbC, where the capital “C” is a refrain. Consistent meter and rhyme scheme followed by a four-line concluding stanza.
