I cannot be expected
To sit silently by,
Turn one more deaf ear
To their soundless cries.
Watch in the shadows,
Just out of reach,
Search for the answers
We might later teach.
Their lives pass on,
I can hear the sounds
Of chains and shackles,
The slaves of the past
Call out in anguish,
“Have you not learned,
Can you never grasp,
Or have you forgotten
What it was like
…. to be human?”

I write to communicate, and connect, and hopefully spread compassion. I sense that we all need encouragement these days, especially the “least” among us.
