Sowing Insanity
When do we stop the killing
A Poem of Protest
As we celebrate this weekend, some families are once again mourning.
They have unnecessarily lost a young family member to untimely murder or to a life-threatening injury.
My first thought, when I heard the news of the National Guardsmen shot in cold blood on this holiday, was perhaps unusual. I had this question:
Why were they even there in the first place, rather than safely home with their loved ones? Why were they deployed as police officers in another state to feed the false news line of an administration out of control and looking for a fight?
And then you learn the backstory of the shooter, and it gets worse. Once again, there are wild attempts to blame the opposing prior administration for their attempts at rescue and integrity. Slowly, you learn that the current administration has betrayed yet more of our allies and made them our enemies.
Once again, the same narrative, the same motive: Sow chaos, insanity, and war, and reap the financial benefits of deals, grift, and unsavory backroom agreements with tyrants and the morbidly rich.
How many innocents do we lose before we make it stop?
While others look for peace
And seek a way forward,
Some set their minds on greed,
And sow insanity.
We patrol quiet streets,
Marching ever forward,
Losing our thanksgiving,
Looking for enemies.
They make things out to be
Far worse than we imagine,
Then mourn what’s happening,
Our greater fears begin.
Where there was nothing real,
Fighting comes in fashion,
Stoked by unseen forces,
financing their mansions.
See our cities quiver
Under the cold and ICE,
Build gold-plated ballrooms
Against reasoned advice.
Innocents do suffer,
The uniformed and poor
Feed the endless coffers
Of the richest and the bored.
Billionaires do gather,
Pat each other on the back,
Know they built their cover
For the ultimate attack.
Raise their wine at dinners,
Ten million for a plate,
Celebrate the masses
Who suffer poorer fates.
Thank you for taking the time to read!
I deeply appreciate your support.
