When Trust Is Gone
Betrayed your dreams and mine
A poem

When trust is gone, it does not soon return, if ever.
Suspicions rise, and nothing is assumed to be right.
The slightest moves are questioned at each step, and clever
sayings shadow misdeeds, undiscovered in the night.
You made the change, masked your ways, remanded to your fate,
lost and estranged, betrayed your dreams and mine. Will you do
it all again, as we refuse to know or listen
to the doubting voices in our heads that told us so.
When trust is gone, then nothing much remains un-stolen.
